Dr. Eric Fonberg is an Emergency Medicine physician in Toronto, Canada. He is licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario with certification in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He has a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Toronto. In addition, he holds a certificate in governance studies from McMaster University and the Conference Board of Canada.
Dr. Fonberg has extensive clinical experience. He has worked in a number of emergency departments in major Canadian hospitals, as well as in rural hospitals and in remote aboriginal and first nations communities in northern Canada and in the Arctic. He has also worked in primary care as a family physician. He maintains an active practice in Emergency Medicine. Over the last twenty years Dr. Fonberg also has extensive management experience. He has been program director, Emergency Medicine, at three large Canadian hospitals. He was Vice President, Strategy and Integration and Chief of Medical Staff at two large hospitals.
Dr. Fonberg was Associate Medical Officer of Health in a public health region in Canada, in charge of infectious diseases programs, including surveillance. He has also had senior management experience in the biotechnology and insurance industries. Dr. Fonberg was a senior management consultant at two multinational consulting companies, specialising in strategy, operations and planning for hospitals and health systems in Canada, the United States and Great Britain. Dr. Fonberg has participated with THET on projects in Zambia and Somaliland in the areas of management capacity building and quality assurance. He is currently an independent health care consultant, in association with several management consulting partnerships. Dr. Fonberg has academic appointments in the Departments of Family and Community Medicine and the Institute for Health Policy, Measurement and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is a lecturer in the Masters Certificate in Health Management program at York University in Toronto.
